The Annual Reenactment of the Battle of Sacramento was one of Judge Whitaker's initiatives to preserve and commemorate the history associated within the Green River Valley. In conjunction with the City of Sacramento, the event was held on a portion of the actual battlefield for 25 years.
This was the largest Cavalry reenactment in Kentucky for many years. Large numbers of Infantry and Artillery participated as the event grew. The actual battle was Calvary on Calvary and involved less than 1,000 combatants. The Battle of Sacramento was little more than a skirmish by Civil War standards, yet it heralded a new era in the development of mobile warfare.
