Green River Valley Synopsis
00:00 / 00:55

Former McLean County Judge Executive Larry B. Whitaker was a pioneer in his efforts to tell the story of Western Kentucky River Culture.

He knew that regional heritage did not stop at each county line.  So he used his knowledge of federal grants to coordinate with other counties in an effort to tell the story of the region as a whole.

These songs were a part of his application for a Scenic Byway Corridor Management Grant.  The grant was approved, but Judge Whitaker was not reelected. The Byway Project languished until the grant had expired.

Judge Whitaker selected over 20 songs and commissioned others to be written. He did not get a chance to follow through with his vision and the songs were likely to be lost.

We wish to honor Judge Whitaker's vision by establishing a "gallery" to present relevant art from the area. We start with the songs already approved for the Byway project and hope to add works by other musicians and video artists.
